Epworth Sleepiness Scale

A validated subjective measure of a patient's sleepiness. How likely are you to doze off or fall asleep in the following situations, in contrast to feeling just tired?

Scoring Guide

  • 0 = Would never doze
  • 1 = Slight chance of dozing
  • 2 = Moderate chance of dozing
  • 3 = High chance of dozing

Clinical Interpretation

A score of 10 or less implies normal daytime sleepiness. A score of 11 or higher indicates excessive daytime sleepiness that warrants clinical investigation for underlying disorders such as Sleep Apnoea or Narcolepsy.
